How it's made
Hemp is a fabric produced from the stalks of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It has a similar texture to cotton and is actually believed to be three times stronger. It also requires less land than cotton to be cultivated. And as it is a dense and fast growing plant, it does not require herbicides. It also naturally reduces pests and so does not require pesticides. Hemp is considered to be a carbon negative fabric as it actually absorbs more carbon that it produces. It also releases less toxic substances into the soil and surrounding ecosystem.Â
Its benefits
- Lightweight, breathable and moisture wicking.
- Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Â
- Durable, softens with each wash and will last many years without losing shape or integrity.
- Biodegradable and compostable and so even when it's at the end of its use, it does not cause any pollution or add to its carbon footprint.
- Ideal fabric for apparel and homeware.
